Crowdfunding for “Resource”, a non-profit helping people with autism spectrum disorders.

Introduction:

The client is “Resource”, a non-profit helping people with ASD: the organisation provides educational support to children with autism spectrum disorders and other mental conditions.

This subject touches me personally — my own brother Platon studies in one of Resource’s classes.

Every year Resource grows and develops: classes open, new pupils arrive, teaching methods get better. All of that takes not only the time and the effort of the parents of special children, but money too — for running a classroom and paying the teachers.

Work like that can’t be carried without a website, so the founders came to me. There was one task — to tell people what the organisation does, and to let someone send money without leaving the page.

How it went:

I made the first version in 2019 — more on my own initiative, as help for the project. There were no particular requirements for it, and I drew the information I needed from social media and public talks, so the landing page came out simple and held only what mattered to a donor.

The hard part of the design was that the site had to look at the same time like an official resource matching the status of the organisation and like a project devoted to children. I tried to find the balance: I chose a soft typeface — Montserrat Alternates, made the background white, highlighted the important places with shades of purple, the main colour of the logo, and tried to avoid corners, preferring rounded shapes.

Taking payments was a separate struggle: I changed the provider twice, the terms didn’t suit us, and I settled on Yandex’s solution.

Donations work in two modes: a one-off payment and a monthly one. There are preset amounts and a custom one, payment by card and through bank services. The page shows the progress of the current campaign — how much has been raised and how much is needed.

In September 2021 one of the foundations funding Resource put forward new requirements for the information on the site. On top of that, over two years I had new work of my own in web behind me, so I decided to rebuild the site completely.

The work took about ten days: I rewrote the site from scratch, built the structure to the foundation’s requirements and added a blog page where news arrives automatically from the organisation’s social media.

As things stand, the site is fully finished and is maintained by the “Resource” non-profit and by me.

Sergei Dmukhovsky

Director of the “Resource” non-profit

We needed a website for the non-profit. We came to Pavel and described our “wishes”. We left the design to him and only saw the final result. Everything was done in a short time, and the result matched every expectation. We really liked the personal approach: we talked through what we wanted, we didn’t sign off on any intermediate results, but it was done exactly as I had it in my head 🙂

We are very glad we trusted him! Thank you for the work you have done!
